Live Performances

Ken Jenkins and Immediate Future Productions (IFP) started out in 1969 as a live light show performance group. Using optical projectors of unique design, we would cover walls and screens with moving “lumia” type colored light, an ever changing, abstract parade of luminous beauty.

Drawn to music of a more electronic and meditative form, most early shows were performed with prerecorded music of what came to be known as the New Age genre. This was ideally suited to the slow, flowing and meditative images we continued to refine.

The first major show was at the first Transpersonal Frontiers Conference, held in San Francisco in 1978. A second similar show was performed at Foothill College that Fall.

By the early 80’s it became possible to record all the optical images on videotape and perform entire shows with just one video projector and live mixing of videotapes. That mode is the current primary methodology.

IFP offers customized services to reflect the goals and needs of the client. This means completing a project in a timely and cost effective manner, with the highest possible quality the budget allows. For clients needing more comprehensive services, IFP draws from a extensive pool of creative and technical talent close at hand, allowing for a one-stop-shop alternative for your video production and graphics needs.

Currently shows include two distinct types of imagery. The exquisite nature cinematography of David Fortney is featured for more acoustic music, while the trademark colorful IFP meditative lumias, lasers and mandalas are the main feature for the more electronic music played in ambient chill rooms. More upbeat versions of similar images are used in the less frequent main stage dance environments.

VISUAL MUSIC VIDEO

Produced, Directed, and Created by Ken Jenkins

Winner of the Crystal Award at the
International New Age Music Conference.

The New Age music soundtrack by Iasos, Constance Demby, Jonn Serrie, and Charles Thaxton includes one original score.

Best known for producing the special effects for Shirley MacLaine’s Inner Workout video, Ken Jenkins’ visual wizardry has appeared in dozens of other videos, including Steven Halpern’s Inner Peace.

What is Visual Music?
Visual music is an entertaining art form of color, movement, form, and sound. It combines enchanting imagery with beautiful music to create an engaging and captivating experience.
Like music, visual music is a universal language, without specific meaning or interpretation. It is an aesthetic experience to be enjoyed like music, but with the eyes as well as the ears.

Where have I seen Visual Music?
Fantasia is one of the best known examples of Visual Music. Other films such as 2001-A Space Odyssey have extended sequences featuring only music and images. Laser light shows like Laserium are another familiar form of Visual Music.

Visual Music Video by Ken Jenkins

“…remarkable collage of sight and sound – a mind bending, ever-changing aurora of astonishing beauty…. A breakthrough beyond any abstract imagery ever committed to videotape, achieving a depth of field and polychromatic radiance that leaves jaw-dropping viewers mesmerized.”
– Terry Wood, Billboard, 1989

“Ken Jenkins has succeeded in bringing to life a concert for the eye as well as the ear. It will, in all likelihood, become a landmark in the worlds of art, video, and the New Age.”
– John A. Neri, New Realities, 1989

****(Four stars). “…the remarkable visuals are mesmerizingly beautiful, richly yet subtly colored, and unfailingly fascinating”.
– Roy Hemming, Video Review, 1990

“The visual effects are exquisite and ever changing, with forms and colors beautiful beyond description. The effect is simply stunning. Combined with the outstanding musical scores, the resulting work is probably the closest thing to what I imagine the angelic realms must be like.”
– Lynn Edwards, Alternatives for a New Age, 1989

“There is an undeniable grace and mesmerizing radiance to the complex and inspiring visuals. Unusually beautiful, Illumination could be viewed more than a dozen times without becoming boring or repetitious”.
– P.J. Birosik, Body, Mind, Spirit, 1989

“The kaleidoscopic, vibrant, ever-shifting patterns of color brought forth a sense of fascination and awe; a deep reminder of the infinite beauty of the universe. …many cuts above other meditation videos. These patterns are organic and compelling …true joy for anyone who delights in beauty, pure color, and the call of the angelic realms.”
– Wahaba, Heartsong Review, 1989

“His work is hard to describe but easy to get lost in. Each time I view his work, I find something new. His kinetic visual syntheses and kaleidoscopic mandalas grace many of the first and finest videos on the market. In fact Ken Jenkins’ credits read like a chronicle of classic New Age video.
– Steven Halpern, New Frontiers, 1987

“The imagery is rich, dense and thoroughly gorgeous throughout…. with the music selected, the effect is almost overwhelming”.
– Ivan Dryer, Creator/Founder, Laser Images (Laserium)

“The most beautiful piece of abstract video art I’ve ever seen…. breathtaking images of radiant, etheric color and the forms one imagines angels take. With its continually flowing, imploding, fluorescing imagery and its unremitting gorgeousness, Illumination is a work you could look at 100 times and it would never be the same”
Anna Turner, Co-founder, Hearts of Space Music
